One company is making a scooter called the Automoto which is a 150cc scooter with 2 rear wheels and a capsule for the driver. It seats two people and is capable of doing 83 miles per gallon of gas. Piaggo has a three wheel scooter that was previously only a concept scooter. It has now been released as their new MP3 scooter. It comes in two versions , 125cc and 250cc. This model has two front wheels rather than 2 rear wheels like the automoto. They claim the front wheels give it much better stability and traction in wet road conditions. The wheels actually tilt when you are turning a corner. It should be ridden the same way as a 2 wheel scooter. Because of the extra grip of the front wheels it is capable of riding on different road surfaces at high speed without any problems.
Some other companies have come up with some good concept scooters. One company is peugot which has a scooter called the HYmotion3. It has an enclosed shell and can also carry 2 people. It promises to have a low CO2 footprint and good weather protection compared to normal scooters. It will have a suprcharged petrol engine providing a maximum output of 21KW. It also has a 3KW eletric motor so it can operate in 3 different modes. Electric, petrol or hybrid depending on the speed and the road conditions.
Three wheel scooters are an interesting new addition to the petrol scooter market. Some of these have 2 front wheels and others 2 rear wheels. Over time we will be able to find out which models are offer more stability which may revolutionise the technology available for scooters. 3 wheel scooters can be used as a delivery/transport vehicle or a personal transport vehicle. Either way this new type of scooter will become more popular as more models hit the roads. The addition of extra traction control and ability to drive confortably on different road surfaces will be a great addition.
